Our Assessment Process

Every assessment at Insights begins with a parent or client consultation. This first meeting allows our psychologists to gather background information, discuss your concerns, and explore the best assessment pathway for your needs.

Assessments are typically conducted by a multidisciplinary team, which may include Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists. This team-based approach ensures a holistic understanding of strengths and challenges across areas such as cognition, communication, attention, emotional regulation, and learning.

Typical steps in the assessment process include:

Initial Consultation: The lead Psychologist meets with the parent or individual to understand concerns, history, and goals. With consent, input may also be gathered from schools, teachers, or other professionals in advance of the consultation.
Assessment Sessions: The individual completes standardized, play-based or task-based assessments tailored to their age and needs. For younger children, sessions are designed to be engaging and developmentally appropriate. Conversely, age-appropriate tests are used for more mature and adult clients.
Feedback Meeting: Once testing is complete, the lead Psychologist meets with parents (or the adult client) to discuss the results, provide an explanation of findings, and recommend next steps.
Report: A comprehensive written report summarizes strengths, areas of need, and practical recommendations for home, school, and community settings. If appropriate a neurodevelopmental diagnosis may be provided, based on the tests conducted and evidence gathered.
Where appropriate, our clinicians may also meet with teachers or employers to discuss strategies for supporting the child or adult in their learning environment.

Developmental Assessments (Under 5s)

Developmental Assessments (Under 5s)

Our Developmental Assessments help families understand a young child’s early progress across key areas such as communication, motor coordination, play, attention, and emotional regulation. These assessments are ideal when there are concerns about delays or differences in early milestones.

A specialist team — typically including a psychologist and either a Speech and Language or Occupational Therapist — uses gold-standard tools to identify developmental strengths and areas where early intervention may be helpful.

Neurodevelopmental Assessments (School-Age Children and Adolescents)

Neurodevelopmental Assessments (School-Age Children and Adolescents)

Our Neurodevelopmental Assessments explore areas such as learning, attention, language, motor coordination, and social communication. These assessments may explore possible neurodevelopmental diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Learning Disorders, Dyspraxia (DCD), or Language Disorders.

Each assessment is tailored to the individual and typically includes classroom observation (for younger children), standardized testing, and feedback sessions for both parents and teachers. Our team ensures that every assessment is affirming, collaborative, and respectful, helping families and individuals gain clarity while focusing on strengths and practical supports.

Neurodevelopmental Assessments for Adults

We also offer assessments for adults exploring neurodivergence — including Autism, ADHD, and learning differences. These assessments are also led by licensed Psychologists, with input from the wider multidisciplinary team, who take a collaborative, affirming approach to help clients gain self-understanding, improve daily functioning, and access relevant accommodations or supports.

Collaborative School Consultation (CSC) – An Alternative to Full Assessment

Collaborative School Consultation (CSC) – An Alternative to Full Assessment

For some families, a school-based consultation may be a more suitable first step than a formal diagnostic assessment. The Collaborative School Consultation (CSC) process involves a psychologist visiting the child’s school, conducting classroom observations, and facilitating a joint meeting with parents and school staff.

This process helps identify learning, behavioral, or social-emotional needs and supports the development of strategies or school-based plans (such as an Individual Education Plan or Regulation Support Plan). While this service does not provide a formal diagnosis, it offers valuable insight into how the child can be best supported within their educational environment. It can also serve as an excellent early step before pursuing a full assessment later on.

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) is a specialised service supporting communication for children and adolescents. It addresses a range of areas including language, speech sounds, voice, social interaction, AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication), and fluency. At Insights, our focus is on empowering clients to communicate effectively and confidently in their daily lives.

Our journey begins with an initial consultation and assessment to identify individual needs and set therapy goals. For children, we adopt an affirmative approach, involving parents, teachers, and caregivers to ensure strategies are consistent across environments, and strengths are celebrated. Therapy may include play-based sessions, active learning, or group activities tailored to the child’s unique requirements.

For adolescents, therapy is designed to address specific challenges using consultation, counselling, and targeted interventions. Sessions are conducted in our private, welcoming clinic in JLT, and in select few schools across Dubai.
