Nurturing the Early Years: Supporting Speech, Language and Communication Development

Join Sarah Wedel, Speech and Language Therapist and Clinical Director, alongside Siog Moor, Founder of Littleland Nursery and Early Years Expert, for an engaging and practical session focused on supporting young children during this important stage of development.

Together, they will explore how speech, language and communication skills develop in the early years, and why these skills are the foundation for learning, relationships, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

During times of distance learning and reduced social interaction, many parents and carers are left wondering how best to support their child. This session offers clear, reassuring guidance and practical strategies that can be used in everyday life.

You will learn how to use play, connection, and simple routines to build communication skills, support emotional regulation, and help your child feel steady, safe, and confident.

Learning Goals:

  • Understand typical speech, language and communication development in children aged 2–5 years
  • Recognise how reduced socialisation and changes in routine may impact development
  • Learn practical, play-based strategies to support communication at home
  • Explore how connection, responsiveness, and routine support both language and emotional wellbeing
  • Gain confidence in knowing when and how to seek additional support if needed

This session will also provide an opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and leave with simple, meaningful tools you can use straight away.
