Position Summary:
Serve as a trusted partner and strategic advisor internal clients across Johns Hopkins Hospital to provide effective communication to internal audiences.
Develop and implement internal communications strategies; build awareness and understanding of programs and initiatives in support of organizational and department-level strategic goals and objectives.
Draft content and messages for various communications channels (print, web, video, etc.). Identify stories and produce high-quality written materials for JHM electronic, print, video, etc.
Collaborate with the enterprise Marketing and Communication colleagues to plan/implement internal communications projects.
Build strong, collaborative relationships with key department and institutional stakeholders; serve on cross functional teams that include leadership and other JHM Marketing and Communications departments and colleagues across the enterprise.
Look for new and innovative approaches to advance communication with internal audiences; design and implement communications systems and process improvements.
Monitor and analyze communications effectiveness and trends to help inform and improve future projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
College degree in life sciences, science writing, journalism or communications required
Demonstrated experience implementing effective external and internal communications plans and strategies; experience in working with news media; and knowledge of academic medical center culture and organization. Depending on area of focus, demonstrated experience with scientific and technical writing may be necessary. Effective use of communication tools, including print, Web, media relations, electronic media and other e-communication tools; AP Style and ability to apply institutional style standards consistently. Familiarity with media tracking services and databases preferred
Work Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in journalism, media relations or public affairs, preferably for a university is required. Requires demonstrated experience working successfully on deadline and designing and implementing communications plans and strategies. Demonstrated experience in implementing effective and external and internal communications plans and strategies and in editing/writing high-quality publications is required.
Requires strong communication skills and proven ability to precisely and objectively communicate information; give and receive clear messages; ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment; effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects at once; meeting demanding deadlines; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; sound judgment and discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to take direction.
Salary Range: Minimum 26.12/hour - Maximum 43.11/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
